While equal in dignity, men and women are different, so it is important to create space to honor those differences. Spaces where each can feel comfortable, supported, and free to be authentically themselves without worrying what the other might think. Our sporting events bring the most confusion: how does kickball increase faith? Yet, if you take a moment to reflect on times you’ve played sports in your life: ❓Can you remember a time you were frustrated by other players? An opportunity to grow in patience. ❓Can you remember a time you didn’t perform as well as you wanted to? An opportunity to exercise humility and give yourself grace. ❓Can you remember a time you taught someone the rules? A trick? A skill? An opportunity to share a gift you’ve been given. ❓Can you remember a time you lost? An invitation to accept your best is good enough because winning isn’t everything, you had fun and made memories. ❓Can you remember a time you won? An invitation to celebrate with gratitude for all the gifts, talents, teammates, and opportunities the Lord has granted us. Again, there is no aspect of our lives God does not want to enter into and we see that so prevalently in these intramural sports. Sometimes the Lord preached, but more often He demonstrated His teachings through deeds and treatment of others. We should follow His lead! 🎬 What a wonderful night at the movies! 🍿 Bishop Robert Barron gave a great overview of the hidden details in gothic cathedrals and how that can bring us into deeper reflection and understanding of God. He spoke in detail of Abbot Suger who spearheaded the gothic architecture style with pointed arches. Bishop Barron reflected on the societal tendency to treat faith as a hobby in stark contrast to Suger’s desire to share his faith with the world through inspiring architecture. We can’t speak for society, but we agree with Suger and are seeking to be Salt + Light!

Spiritual events are an opportunity to intentionally dive deeper into our faith by setting aside dedicated time for prayer, learning, or reflection. Our half-day retreats are sometimes a person’s first exposure to a retreat. Pilgrimages can sometimes feel like they are for “holy people”, something we often do not attribute to ourselves. However, when you realize life is a pilgrimage with the destination of Heaven, then journeying across the seas or one town over to spend time journeying to a holy place feels a bit more inviting. God wants His house full, and He created you because He wants you to be in Heaven. These spiritual events seek not just to teach this truth, but to provide opportunities to truly take it to heart. Our next Spiritual Opportunity is TONIGHT at the Lincoln Grand Cinema for Bishop Robert Barron’s film Heaven in Stone and Glass exploring the spiritual and theological meaning behind gothic architecture.

Salt + Light’s Pint Night is an opportunity for young adults to gather together, grab a drink, and hear from a Catholic speaker on a variety of topics from theological to life skills. Generally held on the second Thursday of ODD months at a local bar, this month in particular it is actually tomorrow, September 18th, as we celebrate our 1 year legal incorporation anniversary! Pint Night is one of our two sponsorship opportunities if your organization is interested in getting your name out to a Catholic Young Adult audience.
